Tools of Recovery Terms of Use

Privacy Policy

Effective October 9, 2026

The short version: you can browse every tool without an account. If you create one, we keep your name, email and the tools you save, only to run the app. We don't sell your information, show ads or use tracking cookies, and we never ask about your health.

Tools of Recovery ("Toro," "we," "us") is a library of peer recovery tools for mental health and substance use recovery, made by Toro Mental Health LLC in Austin, Texas. This policy covers the Toro app at app.toro.menu and the partner versions of it, such as newobsession.toro.menu. It explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and the choices you have.

What we collect

When you browse without an account, we don't ask who you are. The app remembers a few settings on your own device (such as whether you've seen the Help tip and which tools you've upvoted), and our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure.

When you create an account, we collect:

When you use the app while signed in, we keep:

When you send us something, we keep what you send: comments on tools, feedback, tool enhancement requests, and tool recommendations (including any image, source link and the name you choose to be credited with). Comments are reviewed before they appear and are shown as "Community member," not under your name. A recommendation shows the credit name only if you chose to add one.

What we don't collect: we never ask for diagnoses, medical history or other health information, and we don't use your device's precise location. The location menu works from the city or zip code you choose. Questions you type into the Help panel are matched to tools on your device and aren't sent to us. Please don't include health details, or anyone else's personal information, in comments or feedback.

How we use it

We don't sell or rent your personal information, we don't share it for advertising, and we don't send marketing email without your permission.

Who we share it with

Service providers. We use a few companies to host the app, run sign-in, store the tool library and send account emails. They handle your information only to provide those services to us and may not use it for anything else. If you play a video or audio clip, it comes from YouTube, Vimeo or Spotify. Links to tools take you to other websites, which have their own privacy policies.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Toro, in which case this policy will still apply to your information.

Partner versions

Some partners offer Toro under their own name and look, such as New Obsession at newobsession.toro.menu. Those versions run on the same app and follow this policy. Forms sent from a partner version are marked with that partner's name so we know where they came from. If a partner places the app inside its own website or app, the partner's own privacy policy covers everything outside the Toro app.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and favorites until you delete your account. Comments, feedback and recommendations are kept as part of the tool library; if you ask, we'll remove ones you sent. Server logs are kept for a limited time by our providers. Our regular backups of the tool library don't include account information.

Your choices

Children

Toro is for people 13 and older. Creating an account requires confirming you're 13 or older, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email info@toro.menu and we'll delete it. If you're under 18, we encourage you to use Toro with a parent, guardian or another adult you trust.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the whole app, keep passwords only in hashed form, and limit who can see account information. Each person's favorites can be read only by their own account. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.

Health information

Toro is a directory of resources, not a health care provider, and doesn't offer treatment, diagnosis or medical advice. It isn't covered by HIPAA, the U.S. law for health care providers and insurers, which is one more reason we ask you not to share health details with us.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
